Well, after 29 Hours flying, (consisted of 4 hours sleep in total) we arrived in Venice on Monday, NYE, flying over the Swiss Alps and into Marco Polo Airport in Venice to a brilliant, crisp, still and clear blue skied Venice. Our hotel was a real surprise an ex- private Palace, now converted into a hotel, just beautiful. We got out and about and the entry lines for most things were huge, so we just kept walking round. The main focus was dinner and then into San Marco Square, along with most of Italy. It was lots of fun that night, sipping on hot mulled wine on a very cold night. After counting down to 2013, we then headed for the waterfront for the fireworks, but the crowd stopped before we could see them clearly, what a crush it was, but a fun experience anyway.
Today started with a special New Years breakfast that the hotel put on for the guests, WOW it was amazing; this is Italy at its best! Then we hit the roads for 5 hours of non -stop wanderings. We were in plenty of churches, and a few of them were doing mass, that was great to experience as well. Venice was shrouded in fog all morning, and it was almost surreal at times walking the lanes and over the canals. By lunchtime it was all blue skies again, and the crowds were out in force.
We have just come back from dinner in a nice Ristorante in the Piazza around the corner from our hotel, great pasta! We are off to Verona (Romeo & Juliette country) in the morning, so its back to the airport to pick up our rental car. I think Jet lag has caught up with us, so its Ciao for now from us!
